Grapes

Ryan's mom grew up in upstate NY and every year she picked grapes with her family and they made grape juice. While at the farmer's market this year she discovered a vendor with an Orchard where we  could pick our own grapes and apples that was about an hour away from us. So exciting! She introduced us to grape picking and then she made juice and Ry, the girls and I canned jam, made a grape pie, and a grape sorbet. I'm hooked! Sooooo yummy!!!
We arrived at the Orchard just in time for the rain! We had only picked for 5 minutes before it started down pouring.  We decided to try and wait it out in the van as we had lunch. But since it didn't show any signs of letting up we ended up picking in the rain. The girls were troupers and didn't complain at all. (I was very surprised by this! Grammy must have  a special effect on them!!) They walked around in the rain making up songs about the Orchard, grapes, the rain, God, etc. We actually had a really great time picking in the rain!

Watching Grammy hard at work.

The poor guy really wanted to be outside but it was just too wet for him. He did eventually fall asleep in the backseat for about 45minutes. When he woke up the rain had stopped and I was able to carry him around outside.

So proud of all our grapes. Our final total was 217 pounds of grapes! We got a little excited and picked a ton! They produced 48quarts of juice, 14pints of jam and a pie.

What a big helper!

And just because he's so cute and didn't get to be out with us at the Orchard.
